What to do on Easter?
Commonly associated with a large bunny in a tux and fun-filled egg hunts, Easter Sunday means more to others than what meets the eye. To the majority of the Filipino population dubbed as Christians, this feast is not just a holiday but a day to reflect and celebrate the Resurrection and the fulfilment of Christ’s mission here on earth.
Well let’s not dwell much more into that, rather let’s look at Easter as a day to celebrate love and life as we ourselves fulfil our personal missions. After all, this Sunday marks the end of penitence and sacrifice suffered for forty days during the Lenten season. So let’s list down five activities that might interest you to engage yourself in on this fabulous Feast of Life.
1. Easter Egg Hunt (of course!)
Fortunately, there’s an abundance of this activity on the day itself. This is very good for kids to bond and have fun outdoors instead of just sitting around the house all day, wasting time on PSP, computer games, social networking or other obesity-inducing activities. Make them move those muscles!
I highly encourage you to join one primarily for the thrill of the hunt. You see, the sense of achievement is very good for someone. The feeling of fulfilment, even if just derived from finding the hidden egg, is a very good ego boost.
2. Go swimming
With Easter Sunday falling during the summer months, there is nothing more satisfying than to have a dip in the cool waters under the blazing heat of the sun. Word of the wise, don’t ever, ever forget to have that ample swab of sunblock before braving the elements. You might not enjoy it that much if you end up having bright, flaming, excruciatingly painful sunburned skin.
Aside from swimming, there are a ton of other things that you might enjoy doing while you’re at the beach. It’s an opportunity to showcase your body while walking around in your bikini without offending proper decorum. You can also throw banana boat, Jet Ski, dusk till dawn bar parties, henna tattoo and sumptuous sea food to the equation and your sun, sea and sand experience is complete.
3. Climb Some Mountain
I’m not telling you to do the Everest. Find a peak that is kind to those inexperienced climbers. I’m sure there are a number of those as we can assume that every good climber started hiking perfectly easy stuffs. You know, the principle of starting small? The best thing about mountain climbing is that this is something that no sane person will undertake alone making it a good activity where you can develop your relationship with your family and friends.
Personally, I love doing this. I feel wonderful every time I reach the peak, seeing the view from the top and feeling small and insignificant compared to the nature before me and yet having the sense that I belong in there.
4. Church Visit
This one is for the Roman Catholic people out there (such as me). My family rarely do this anymore since we kids grew up and started planning activities of our own, minus the parents and the rest of the family.
Most Catholic folks do their visits during Good Friday, praying the rosary and touring the Stations of the Cross of various churches in various cities. We, my family, prefer to do this on Easter Sunday because we have this superstition that it isn’t safe to travel during the preceding Friday and Saturday since the Lord is considered dead, hence He won’t be able to provide protection.
5. Stay at Home
If you ask me personally what I’ll be doing today, I’ll tell you that I prefer to stay at home. This isn’t due to laziness or lack of better ideas but solely because I feel burned out from all the fast-paced activities that I engage in normally.
Living life to the fullest isn’t all about having fun all the time. It also includes having periodic period of peace and tranquillity. Listening to silence and hearing your personal unspoken thoughts to get more in touched with yourself.
So this is where I let you chose among the five options that we’ve listed down and thank you for reading my first ever blog! Thank you for giving time to my musings and thoughts and have a happy Easter!
